Welcome to Santa Cruz Gymnastics Center
Welcome!
Here at SCGC our mission is to build a community of people that all support each other’s growth, learning, safety and development through our love of gymnastics and fun.
We offer toddler classes, preschool classes, recreational classes, summer camps, holiday camps, birthday parties, adult open gym and competitive teams.
What’s happening at SCGC?
We just wrapped up a super fun summer in the gym! We had a blast making new friends at summer camp.
Now we’re headed into back-to-school mode and getting ready to rebuild strength, basics and core gymnastics concepts in our recreational classes. August and September are all about reviewing the most important basics in all our classes.
Our skill of the month program returns in August, so we will begin strongly focusing on one skill each month. We will work on learning through drills, repetition and conceptual understanding and develop our ability to commit to building skill mastery.
Closures
SCGC will be closed on the following dates:
- Monday, August 3rd through Saturday, August 8th (Back to School!)
- Monday, September 7th (Labor Day)
- Saturday, October 31st (Halloween)
Makeup Classes
We offer makeup classes for gymnasts who are 4 and older and enrolled in Rising Stars classes and above. Makeups are held once per month on Saturdays, typically the last Saturday of the month, but subject to change. To attend a makeup class you MUST sign up in advance.
Upcoming Makeup Class Dates:
August 29th
September 26th
Shape of the Month & Skill of the Month:
Our shape of the month for August is Tuck, Pike & Straddle! These are three of the most basic leg positions we have in gymnastics. Understanding core gymnastics terminology helps us communicate with our gymnasts and allows our gymnasts to build body awareness through repeating shapes and patterns throughout all the different gymnastics events.
The skill of the month for August is FORWARD ROLL! This is one most critical basic elements in gymnastics. An excellent forward roll can be more challenging that one might expect and correct rolling technique is important for gymnast safety.
