SCGC Competitive Team Program

Competitive gymnastics provides opportunities for athletes to learn, grow and challenge themselves. Team gymnastics requires dedication and commitment and guides athletes to develop self-esteem, self-motivation, goal-setting, leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, time management and responsibility. The goal of our team program is to help our team athletes develop all these characteristics while challenging them to learn new skills, attend competitions with confidence and reach their goals. We aim to make competitive gymnastics accessible to as many athletes as possible and meet each gymnast at their own ability level to help them grow and develop as athletes and people.

All SCGC competitive teams compete through USA Gymnastics, the largest gymnastics governing body in the United States. SCGC offers Levels 3-5 through the USAG Women’s Development Program and Levels Bronze-Sapphire through the USAG Xcel Program. SCGC does not offer the optional levels (Levels 6-10), which are the highest competitive levels of the Women’s Development Program.

Athletes are selected for our competitive team through an annual open tryout process. Tryouts are open to anyone enrolled in any of our SCGC recreational or pre-competitive programs. At tryouts gymnasts will be assessed on their strength, flexibility, basics gymnastics skills, confidence, willingness to challenge themselves and coachability.
